How to Stop Your Dog From Peeing on the Christmas Tree

How to Stop Your Dog From Peeing on the Christmas Tree

The dog has already peed on your Christmas tree, which you bought home barely fifteen seconds ago. Are you hearing this familiar? It's not just you. Although we view Christmas trees as decorations, dogs are not at all sure why they are there.

Here are some ideas to ensure that your celebrations stay safe.

1. Apply the command "Leave It."

Leave it comes in helpful for a variety of situations, and this is one of them. Tell your dog to "leave it" as he gets closer to the tree, and then give him praise when he backs off.

2. Praise proper behavior.

Remember to give your dog affection and goodies when they behave well. Praise him for resting peacefully on his dog bed, the couch, or any other area he is allowed to use. Excellent boy!

3. Use a Corrector for Pets.

If your dog isn't reacting to a stern "no" and looks overly engaged in the tree, you might try using the Pet Corrector, a straightforward device, to divert his attention. This startles the dog by blasting pressurized air. Then you would commend him for relocating from the tree.

4. Strengthen, Redirect, and Normalize the Tree

Reward your dog for being close to the Christmas tree without peeing on it if they scent it or approach it. To achieve this, teach your dog a specific command to perform near the tree, like "sit" or "lie down." This provides them with an alternative behavior to peeing in that area. Your dog will be less likely to pee on the tree if they have previous experience with another behavior.
To help your dog feel like the tree is a part of their living environment, spend some peaceful time with them next to the tree. You may also massage, scratch, or let them gnaw on a Kong or other chew toy. Dogs are less prone to pee in areas where they hang around or sleep.

5. Apply the Nature's Miracle Pet Repellent.

The purpose of Nature's Miracle Pet Block Repellent Spray is to deter animals from a certain location. To keep your dog away from your tree, try spraying it around your tree to keep your dog away.

6. Block the Christmas tree with a gate or fence.

If necessary, you can think about placing the tree in a room that you can use a baby gate to keep your dog out of.

Putting up an ex-pen around the tree is an additional choice. I realize it's ridiculous, but it has been done! This is like a dog "playpen," except you use it to keep the dog out rather than letting the dog inside! Although I don't think this is the best solution, I know of some people who utilize it because of their foster pets. Hey, you have to do what needs to be done. Some folks still desire a gorgeous tree, but they love to foster dogs!

By the way, when you're inside, especially at a guest's house, never let your dog out of your sight. During the holidays, when you visit a friend or relative's house, make sure you keep an eye on your dog or keep him on a leash.
